We carried out a knock-down and rebuild at BP Coate, Swindon. The project consisted of demolition of existing structures, replacement of fuel storage tanks, and the construction of a new, BP-branded petrol filling station and a Marks and Spencer retail offering. As this site was a new acquisition for BP, we looked to undertake some community engagement activities. Our usual focus of involving schools or colleges was not feasible due to the site’s location off a busy dual carriageway so we organised a mental health awareness event: we involved the mental health team from the local authority and invited Mind Swindon and Gloucestershire branch. The construction team across many contractors also attended, as well as representatives from our client BP.
