Here at Premier Forecourts and Construction, we are delighted, once again, to have completed another important project for our much-valued client Artelia at the Shell Tonypandy site in the borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff.
The project was started on the 1st of June and was completed on the 25th September. Initially, the project’s main brief was to replace the fuel storage tanks. However, following a survey during the first week, we were notified that the canopy was defective and needed to be replaced. This was a particularly challenging development due to the close proximity of the tanks to the canopy.
The full scope of work at the site included tank replacement of two 60,000 split compartment tanks, a replacement canopy and full pipework replacement, ducting and drainage upgrade works, concrete forecourt resurfacing, new gauging and monitoring systems and internal upgrades to the shop and Jamie Oliver store.
As with all the other projects we’ve completed in recent months, we implemented our bespoke coronavirus site operating procedures to enable safe working conditions on the site. Thus, ensuring we were able to deliver the project quickly and efficiently whilst keeping our staff and the wider public safe.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 also forced us to reconsider our plans for community engagement. Our initial aim was to work with the adjacent rugby club, Penygraig RFC, and hold mental health awareness sessions, as well as assisting with training the junior team. Disappointingly, but understandably, the lockdown meant that the clubhouse and pitches were closed, and training cancelled, so we were unable to do either. However, we have been able to provide some sponsorship for when the team are able to resume playing – and wish them the best for the season ahead.
Despite these challenges, and the unforeseen extra work, site manager Tyrone Evans and contract manager Stuart Trew, supported by the Premier team, did an excellent job in ensuring that the project was finished efficiently, and to our usual extremely high standards.
