Supporting a new generation of talent

Here at Premier Forecourts and Construction, we always have one eye on developing the next generation of talent – and that is exactly what we have done in the case of Dafydd Allcock who we are supporting to train as a Quantity Surveyor.

Dafydd joined in September 2019 through the Cyfle Building Skills Shared Apprenticeship Programme, which develops and manages apprenticeship programmes across several local authorities, coordinating the workforce needs of multiple companies within the construction sector.

Dafydd, now 19, is now in his second year of a two-year BTEC course covering Construction and the Built Environment at Neath College. This involves time studying in the classroom and working for Premier Forecourts and Construction.

Usually, apprentices need to wait until the end of their course to potentially be offered a job. However, in this case, we were so impressed with the attitude and skillset of Dafydd, we have snapped him up early.

James Cook, Dafydd’s manager and a Quantity Surveyor himself, said that, having initially been brought into the company to handle data entry, he took to the role “like a duck to water” and has now taken on much greater responsibilities including handling all the sub-contractor orders in their entirety.

“Dafydd has proven himself to be a quick learner and has been an exceptional candidate in every way,” James said. “He is exactly the type of person we want in Premier and we now look forward to supporting him with his education with the goal of becoming a full Quantity Surveyor.”

Dafydd said: “Premier Forecourts and Construction have been fantastic to me in their support. This is a great industry to work in and I look forward to learning more about the role all the time. I like the fact that a Quantity Surveyor deals with a project from start to finish – it represents a fantastic career opportunity for me and I am thankful for the support of my employer on this journey.”

Steve Evans, Managing Director of Premier Forecourts and Construction, added: “It is very important for us to constantly invest in the next generation of talent and we feel in Dafydd we have exactly the right type of person we want in this business. We look forward to supporting him on his journey education and career wise and watching him develop and thrive.”
